Penryn activity centre BF Adventure has announced it will be offering five new outdoor active leisure apprenticeships as part of a training partnership with Truro and Penwith College’s business department.

Truro and Penwith College Business is currently working with the charity to train two apprentices.

Former BF Adventure apprentice Sam Edwards said how the practical learning style encouraged him to pursue new challenges following his course.

He said: “I’m applying for a job in America now at USA summer camp. I had a Skype interview yesterday which was a new experience. I’d have never even thought about applying before I did my apprenticeship, I was quiet, shy and didn’t really interact much, now that’s all changed.”

Tamsyn Harris, head of business at Truro and Penwith College, said: “This partnership with BF Adventure provides fantastic opportunities for young people to pursue a rewarding career with a well-established organisation within Cornwall which offers outstanding activities.

Tony Baker, BF Adventure centre manager, added: “Having new, young blood has really energised the team. The group is now more dynamic and it allows us to be more flexible with our staffing requirements.

“The other staff have had to up their game because the apprentices are learning things so quickly, it’s had a really positive ripple throughout the whole charity.”

BF Adventure is looking for applicants to join the team in February and anyone interested or wanting more information can contact the Truro and Penwith College Apprenticeship Recruitment Team on 01872 267531.
