A 14-year-old Camborne boy has been arrested on suspicion of theft and assault causing grievous bodily harm after a man was allegedly punched in the face at a supermarket.

Police are seeking witnesses to an alleged assault at a Tesco store in Camborne after a man attempted to stop a suspected shoplifter.

The 49-year-old man intervened after seeing a youth allegedly concealing items in his clothing.

An argument ensued resulting in the man being punched in the face and the youth being restrained on the floor.

The victim, from Oxfordshire, sustained a cut to his eye requiring stitches.

The 14-year-old boy from Camborne was arrested on suspicion of theft and assault causing grievous bodily harm has been released on bail until  May 20.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident which happened near to the deli area of the store in Wesley Street around noon on Friday, March 20.
