Staff at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth jumped over the side of a tall building to raise thousands of pounds for Cancer Research UK.

Each year the company organises an activity that is personal to its apprentices and to the yard during National Apprenticeship Week. This year, Pendennis chose Friday the 13th to take on a charity abseil which involved 30 current apprentices, 30 other staff and 15 visiting crew members.

One by one they dropped themselves over the edge of the yard’s new |20-metre high hospitality suite to raise cash for the cancer charity which had been chosen in memory of their colleague Adam Ignaczak, who recently lost his life to the disease.

Toby Allies, sales and marketing director at Pendennis who was first over the rails, said: “We are extremely grateful for donations from current project crews, especially Malahne, and to our major sponsors Edmiston and GL Watson, whose contributions alongside that of fellow staff |members, families, suppliers, yachting media and industry partners have raised an incredible £32,000 for Cancer Research UK.

“Their support is an important step in tackling this disease and the generosity shown has deeply touched the staff here at Pendennis.”
