Penryn’s May Day celebration organisers are calling on the local community to get involved as they aim to mark the 750th anniversary of Glasney College.

The Glasney Green Space Regeneration Project will commemorate the founding of the historic establishment in 1265 with a celebration in the Glasney Valley on May 4.

The group is inviting residents young and old to dress the Maypole, take part in the Maypole dance and participate in the May Day parade, to be led by Cornish music group Bagas Crowd, as they hope to build on the success of last year’s event, which was the first to be held in the valley for several years.

Pip Carlton-Barnes, one of the organisers, said: “We are working with a few of the Arts Festival artists who have a Glasney theme running through their work and who hope to showcase this on May Day.

“I have been speaking to the Schools and so far Mabe have been very positive.”
