The eyes of Cornwall turned to the skies this morning as the Sea King helicopters of RNAS Culdrose conducted a birthday fly-past.

Social media was abuzz with pictures tagged #SeaKing as the crews from 771 Squadron celebrated their 76th year, travelling round the coast from Helston to Land's end and up to Newquay before passing back over Truro and Falmouth and ending with a jaunt around the Lizard.

It was a poignant occasion, as the Sea Kings will retire from their search and rescue role at the end of the year, with private operator Bristow Helicopters taking over from January 1, 2016.
