Police are appealing for witnesses after cash was stolen from a property in Truro during a distraction burglary by a man selling handkerchiefs.

The incident happened when a man cold called at a property in George Street at around 1.30pm on Friday, June 19.

The man asked the 68-year-old male resident if he would like to buy some handkerchiefs and placed his bag inside the door preventing the victim from closing it.

The victim left the door to get a pen from the kitchen, at which point the offender is then believed to have entered the property and stolen cash from the man’s wallet which was in a coat pocket.

The suspect is described as tall and is believed to have been wearing a dark suit or denim and was carrying a large black holdall.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area at the time.
