The Falmouth-based Cornwall Marine Network (CMN) is running management and team leading courses following high demand from employers across the county.

The level two team leading and level three leadership and management courses have already attracted employees from A&P Falmouth and the Maritime Museum in Falmouth as well as delegates from the IT and property businesses.

The courses are supported by ESF (European Social Fund) Convergence, co-financed by the Skills Funding Agency via a variety of projects. They are fully funded for the businesses to meet the skills and training needs identified by employers.

Kate Reed, of CMN, said, “Our ability to work closely with business and respond to the needs they have for skills development in their workforce has seen us put in place these courses. They are run by excellent, experienced CMN tutors. As a company owned by businesses in Cornwall we are uniquely placed and able to respond to requests from business utilising ESF resources. We continue to develop and create courses and programmes that meet business need and are happy to hear from all small and medium businesses with training requirements.

“Feedback on both courses so far is excellent. We have five people on our team leading course from A&P Falmouth alone for some newly appointed supervisors - which demonstrates some significant restructure and investment in training on their part. "

The courses, being held at CMN’s training facilities in Falmouth, cover subjects including leadership styles and skills; communication and delegation skills; managing poor performance and conflict; management and leadership theories; the role, functions and processes of management; time management; setting standards; planning and setting objectives and developing a team.

Mark Yeoman, head of ESF Convergence Communication, said: “Skilled people are at the core of all successful businesses. Management and team leading skills are vital to businesses as they expand and take the opportunities available in new and expanding markets. It is great to see ESF Convergence playing its part in building the skills required by busy local companies.”
