The annual Mid Summer Bonfire was held in The Lizard Village last Tuesday in celebration of St Johns Eve, which marks the middle of summer.

Residents of The Lizard still preserves this annual event and a large crowd gathered on the village square to watch performances from the Landewednack School Country Dancers. The children were led by former headteacher of the school, Sue Wilson who retired last year. Mrs Wilson was delighted to be asked back to teach the dances to the children as she had done in previous years.

Following the dancing, the procession were led across the village green by the "Lady of the Flowers" Emily Vincent to the traditional lighting of the bonfire, which was lit this year by Landewednack School teacher Adrian Bolton. The lighting ceremony was introduced by Nick Pryor and was also spoken in the Cornish language by Esther Johns.

Huge thanks go to all those who helped make sure this popular event took place again, including Will Bowman, The Lizard Pasty Shop, The Top House Inn,Sue Wheeler, Neville Amiss, Richard Woodmansey, Sue Wilson, Jocelyn Johnson, Nick Pryor, Esther Johns, Sue Tattersall and Kylie Chalker.
