New Health & Fitness Manager to oversee exciting gym expansion

as Cornwall’s first leisure trust looks to the future.

Carn Brea Leisure Centre, based in Pool, Redruth has announced a £200k investment to expand and upgrade its health & fitness facilities – with the gym set to grow in size by a third to a massive 400 square metres, and the changing rooms doubling in size and being completely refurbished.

The improvement works will be undertaken in November and December of this year and will be overseen by the Trust’s newly appointed Health & Fitness Manager, Philip Hudson, who has also been given the remit of engaging even more of the local community in physical activity.

Philip said “I am delighted to be taking the lead in all things health & fitness and can’t wait for the project to get started. The planned improvements will result in Carn Brea having one of the biggest and best health and fitness facilities in the County, which in turn will drive new and innovative concepts and massively improve our customer’s experience.”

Following the disappointment of last year’s land sale falling through, the gym expansion project forms the first step of a refreshed re-development strategy the Trust has put in place to enhance the centre’s facilities.

Alex Clifton, the Trust’s Chief Operating Officer, commented:

“We haven’t ruled out the possibility that a land sale will provide the capital required to upgrade the Centre as a whole going forwards, but with the building now forty two years old, we felt a number of immediate improvements were necessary.”

“The Board of Trustees and management team have therefore been working hard behind the scenes to put together a sustainable re-investment plan that delivers a better facility for the community and I’m delighted that we’ve reached the first stage of what is shaping up to be an exciting few years.”

During the works at the end of the year, the gym will be temporarily relocated, meaning that although there will be some minor disruption, the health & fitness facilities will remain open for its users to enjoy as normal.
