Hawkins Motor Group have given Cornish charity Cornwall Hospice Care a car so they can take part in the Banger Rally Challenge 2015, from St Austell to Salo in Italy.

Hawkins have donated a 2001 Peugeot 206. Cars need to be valued at less than £350 to qualify for charity cash prizes along the route.

Director Johnny Hawkins said: “Cornwall Hospice Care do such wonderful work in the community and offer help to everyone. At Hawkins we always want to do our bit and help local charities where possible. We are delighted to be supporting one of the two Cornwall Hospice Care teams taking part in this event and we hope they have a smooth journey and meet their fundraising targets along the way.”

Cornwall Hospice Care Community Fundraiser Judy Lawton has made it a personal challenge to take part in this rally and will be one of the team driving. She said: “We are extremely grateful to Hawkins for the donation of the vehicle and for their generous support in the build-up to the event. The rally will help us raise the vital funds we need to care for our patients and their families and will also help us to raise awareness about our great cause. If people want to know more about our work in Cornwall and for Cornwall, I suggest visiting our website and watching some of the moving hospice story films made by some of those whose lives we have touched.”

Cornwall Hospice Care have a £5,000 fundraising target for the event. They are decorating their vehicle with daisies, and are asking people to sign a petal for a donation of £2.

This year's rally, called 'Salo or Bust', starts in October at The Cornwall Hotel, St Austell. The teams pass through seven countries in five days on their way to Salo. There will be daily challenges for teams to raise extra money for their chosen charities.

Cornwall Hospice Care are one of the six official charities for the rally, which is organised by St Austell and District Round Table.
