Students and staff were educated about a range of health and well-being issues with an exhibition of health education campaigns chosen, researched, designed and created by Health and Social Care students at Truro College.

Sun damage awareness, smoking whist pregnant, drug awareness, domestic abuse, drink driving, mental health, dementia, eating disorders, child neglect and abuse, hidden signs of depression, stroke awareness, sexual health issues and anorexia were all subjects covered by the first year BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care students in their projects.

Bonnie Houghton, Deputy Team Leader for Community Studies, said: “They’ve all worked hard to produce a high-calibre of results in such a short period of time. We’re very proud of what they’ve produced, and it shows just how well these students, who have only just started with us, have managed the jump from school to college.”

Students Emily Parker and Becci Gilbert produced a campaign on anorexia-awareness and ‘Body Positive’ themes. “It’s important to spread awareness about eating disorders,” says Emily. “The effects are so sad and we need to do what we can to stop it from happening.”

Becci added: “We’re not just focusing on the negative. It’s about being Body Positive, loving yourself and being confident as you are.”
