The members of Porthleven Women's Institute shared a meal and their memories recently at an informal event to celebrate the group's 90th anniversary.

Around 18 members of the Porthleven branch gathered at Mullion Golf Club for the lunch, celebrating the history of the club since it was formed in 1925, making it just ten years younger than the national Women's Institute which celebrates its centenary this year.

Maureen WIlliams, the group's president, said: "Everyone had a good time, the meal was excellent.

"We were all talking: everyone has joined at different times so, for example, I could tell the newer members something about the Women's Institute over the years, and then the newer members were telling where they had come from and if they had been in the WI up there.

"I think we will have a return visit, another meal."

She added: "We're very proud to have made it this far. There have been some WIs that have closed, but saying that there are more now starting up through the county, and the country."
