Charities and community projects in Falmouth and Penryn could get a helping hand from shipyard apprentices this March as part of National Apprenticeship Week.

Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth is offering free labour to selected local charities and community projects for a week in March. Equivalent to the Scouts' bob-a-job week, small groups of Pendennis apprentices will be available to provide manual labour, from painting to cleaning, lifting or gardening, for local worthy causes as part of the annual initiative, which this year takes place from March 14 to 18.

Jill Carr, human resources director, said: “In the past Pendennis apprentices have taken part in a number of in-house initiatives during National Apprenticeship Week, from charity abseils to director job-swaps. This year we wanted to engage more with the local community, which has always been a valuable part of the apprenticeship programme at Pendennis.”

Any interested groups or charities can contact Pendennis on apprenticeships@pendennis.com providing a description of required labour needs and information about your charity or group. Pendennis will then select a range of local projects for the team to be involved with during their bob-a-job week in March.
