The modern foreign languages department at Camborne Science and International Academy ran its first ever trip to Barcelona recently, giving 14 students a trip of a lifetime.

“As the first Spanish trip we’ve organised, we were very excited about visiting Barcelona which exceeded all of our expectations,” said teacher of languages and trip leader, Angela Pook.“Students were totally immersed in the culture of the city and experienced a number of its best attractions.”

It was the first time some of the students had been on a plane which added to the anticipation. “As soon as we arrived, we started exploring, visiting the famous Gaudi Church and had an impromptu history lesson from Miss Pook,” said Beth Brown, in year nine. “The view overlooking the city from Parc Guell was amazing.”

Students enjoyed an array of educational trips including open air museum Poble Espanol, the stadium of Barcelona and the Montjuic hill to watch the magic fountains which light up and change to music. The final day was spent walking to Parc de la Ciutadella, where students enjoyed eating the popular Spanish delicacy, churros, before enjoying their final afternoon on the beach.

“Our students were excellent ambassadors for CSIA and we’re already looking forward to taking future students to visit this fascinating city,” added Angela. “Not only did they enjoy every minute of their trip, they were surrounded by the language and really refined their own spoken Spanish.”
