FALMOUTH based Seasalt is the first Cornish business to become a VIP sponsor for Truro Cathedral's Sign a Slate fundraising appeal.

They ran an internal design competition within their Marketing Department, and the three winners attended a VIP evening to sign their slates with their designs and meet the Dean.

Commenting on the signing of their slates, Nikki Phillips, Marketing Coordinator at Seasalt , and organiser of the competition, said “Truro Cathedral is a precious landmark here in Cornwall, which is why Seasalt is very happy to become a VIP sponsor of their Sign-A-Slate campaign. We’re very excited to make our mark in history whilst helping to restore this iconic building”

The very Reverend Dean, Roger Bush said: "We are very grateful for the support given to us by Seasalt in our Sign-a-Slate campaign, and we are thrilled they have chosen to be a VIP sponsor.

"Truro Cathedral is such an iconic building in that it not only dominates the Truro skyline but its image is immediately recognisable as representing Truro and Cornwall in so many different ways.

"But the cathedral is not just bricks and mortar; it is a group of people coming together to serve the public in a variety of ways; our faith and beliefs commit us to valuing people of every background.

"The cathedral offers sacred space and common ground to everyone."

Cornwall’s only cathedral relies solely on public funds for its maintenance and provides an amazing wealth of events; concerts, exhibitions and lectures, as well as worship.

The original cathedral roof has been in place since it was completed c1885- 1908. It is now in urgent need of repair, at a cost of £3.2 million to replace the 60,000 slates.

The ‘Sign-A-Slate’ fundraising initiative has captured the imaginations of over 1800 people who have participated raising over £60,000. With other fundraising efforts around £614,000 has been raised so far, leaving 2.6 million still to go.

The cathedral would love to hear from other local Cornish businesses such as Seasalt who would like to support the Roof Appeal. Anyone wishing to take part in Sign-A-Slate can do so by simply coming into the cathedral and visiting the Slate Station, open Monday to Saturday, 10am – 3pm, or you can find out more by visiting the dedicated appeal website www.tcroofappeal.org.uk.
