Almost fifty shipmates and guests of the Royal Naval Association met at the Greenbank Hotel on Saturday, June 4, for what is believed to be the only formal Jutland Centenary Dinner held in Cornwall.
The members were joined by the Mayor of Falmouth, Grenville Chappel, and his wife June, as well as the Mayor of Penryn, Mark Snowdon, and his wife Diane, and councillors from both towns as well as serving senior ratings from HMS Culdrose.
Branch chairman Mick Stevens planned the dinner, and also managed to secure television presenter Nick Hewitt.
Nick is currently head of heritage development at the the National Museum of the Royal Navy, but is perhaps better known for his appearances on BBC's Coast series or on the Military Channel.
The occasion was presided over by the branch president, Commodore Tony Hogg AFC, and following a superb meal, the speeches and toasts, Nick gave an informative and entertaining talk on the battle and its aftermath, before taking questions from the audience.
The organisers thanked everyone for a great evening, "marking a momentous event in both the Royal Navy and Britain's history."
