Cornwall Housing has launched a series of awards to promote the good work that tenants do and the difference tey make to their communities.

The Chair Awards will include categories for: Best community support, for a tenant that goes out of their way to support the local community; Best young person of the year, for a young person who has worked in the local community supporting others, or has overcome difficulties to develop themselves personally; Best Neighbour of the year, for a neighbour who goes out of their way to help people where they live; Business start-up award for someone who has started their own business, which has enabled being able to work around the children; boost the family income and help to come off benefits.

The winner of each category will be invited to the Cornwall Housing Tenants Forum AGM in November to be presented with a certificate of recognition.

The chair of Cornwall Housing, Nick Ball, said: “Too often council tenants across the country are portrayed negatively, where only the bad stuff makes the headlines.

“These awards are about sharing the incredibly good work that our tenants do with the wider public. Tirelessly working to improve their local communities for themselves and others.”

Jane Barlow, managing director of Cornwall Housing, said: “Some of our tenants have had to overcome challenging circumstances, but yet they still make the time to engage with and help others. These awards will give us as a company the opportunity to thank our involved tenants and showcase just what remarkable things are being accomplished.”

The Cornwall Housing website has a lot more information on the awards with more details about each category.
