Police investigating a report of a serious sexual assault on a female child alleged to have happened in Camborne around in the 1970s are looking for witnesses who remember the FMC abattoir in Camborne.

Officers would like to speak to anybody who remembers the abattoir in Beacon in the years between 1974 and 1978. or who recalls any of the drivers for the company at the time.

The appeals comes after a female victim recently told police that she was sexually assaulted by a man in the Camborne area when she was a child.

Detectives are now appealing to anyone who may have lived nearby or worked at the abattoir or Beacon Square around the time of the offence as they may have known or met the offender who is believed to have worked at the abattoir and driven one of its lorries.

He is described as being in his thirties or forties at the time, about 5’8” tall, with short hair and bald on top and of a large build with a fat face and blue eyes.

Detective Constable Louize Morton from the Sexual Offences and Domestic Abuse Investigation Team (SODAIT) in Camborne said: “The victim has taken the courageous step to come forward and tell us about her experience and we will do all that we can to investigate this crime.

“We do however need the help of the public and especially would like to hear from residents who lived in the Beacon area in the early 1970’s. We would also like to hear from anyone who worked in the abattoir at this time as they may hold vital information about the identity of this man.
