Falmouth's Methodist congregation celebrated over two centuries on the Moor with a genteel afternoon of tea and cake.

The afternoon, which saw people indulge in tea and home made cakes, small sandwiches and full-sized scones, was the idea of Moira McCullough, who wanted to do something to raise funds for the church and celebrate two big anniversaries.

Not only is 2016 the 225th the anniversary of having a church on the site, it is also 60 years since worshippers returned after the building was bombed during the second world war and the group had to temporarily relocate to the Wesleyan Chapel with the United Reformed Church.

As a result of getting in guest ministers and speakers through its celebratory year, the church was running low on funds.

Moira said: "We have had special ministers throughout the year to celebrate, quite a few have served here on the circuit or in the church. I said to the ladies how about we do something to raise funds.

"So we did a special tea and asked people to bring in old photos spanning as far back as we could.

"We did it in two sittings, people who bought tickets were in the first sitting, and others came in the second sitting."

The organisers managed to find embroidered tablecloths to give the afternoon a more refined air, with bone china tea sets lent from older members or people who had been gifted them by relatives.

Moira, who was just one of a team of organisers, added: "It all went so well. It was hard work for those who organised it.

"Everybody said it was really good."

The event raised around £240, which will go towards paying for church programme during its anniversary year.
