HMS Ranger made history when she became the first Royal Navy vessel to berth at Flushing Quay.

Her commanding officer Lt Jonathan Eastburn, who went to school in the village, was on hand to greeted schoolchildren and residents alike to welcome them aboard the patrol ship.

His parents, David and Judith Eastburn, of Trefusis Road, Flushing, were waiting on the quayside to greet their son.

Scores of people turned out to inspect the 25-knot patrol vessel during the three hours she was alongside.

Fourteen P2000 Fast Inshore Patrol Craft form the First Patrol Boat Squadron. Their primary role is to support the University Royal Naval Units (URNU) but they also contribute to a wide range of Fleet tasking.
