Entries are being invited for the 2017 Civil Engineering Awards, which this year has a new category, Designed in the South West.

Organised by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) South West, the awards celebrate outstanding civil engineering achievement, innovation and ingenuity around the region. It is a chance for projects and organisations from across the south west to showcase the fantastic work that is taking place.

The new new category reflects the fact that civil engineers in the region are working tirelessly on projects that are not necessarily local or even British, but are just as important to them.

Miranda Housden, ICE South West regional director, said: “Our Civil Engineering Awards will recognise projects completed in 2016, which promote the excellence of the engineering profession.

“The South West is full of innovative and inspiring projects and engineers, from a wide range of sectors and we hope to celebrate this wide variety of achievements.”

There are five main categories for the awards: projects over £1m; projects less that £1m; community award, which highlights the significant achievement of involving the local area and media; designed in the south west award, for projects outside of the region with significant input from regional organisations; and finally the people’s choice award, giving members of the public the chance to vote for their favourite local projects. The closing date for entries is Friday, March 10.
