Young adults in Cornwall with a creative flare are being encouraged to apply for a new course being launched at Penwith College, which teaches the mechanics of creating computer games.

The Access to Creative Media and Games course, a one-year course, is described as a ‘concise and complete introduction’ to the world of computer game production.

Students will learn valuable skills which apply to a range of media jobs, including computer games development, film production, graphic design and digital photography.

No previous experience is required to be eligible for the course, providing applicants have strong software skills and demonstrate a willingness to learn.

Alongside gaining valuable new skills, students will also have the opportunity to work with digital Cornish businesses to gain practical experience.

David Atkinson-Beaumont, Penwith College’s community programme leader, said: “Students will be encouraged to get involved with the Cornwall Film Festival, assisting work with various locally-based photographers, graphic designers, games designers and production companies giving them the opportunity to use the skills they have learned.

“An increasing number of adults are looking for a career change or upskilling with a view to moving into the industry.

“This course is the first step for anyone looking to move into the creative digital industry and from here there are many avenues available locally and nationally for further study and employment.”
