The A30 was temporarily closed last night after a three-vehicle smash so severe that a woman had to be airlifted to Derriford Hospital.

The incident occurred at around 9pm last night, and both the fire service and ambulance crews were in attendance.

The westbound carriageway of the A30 near Zelah was completely blocked, and firefighters had to cut the woman free from the wreckage.

A helicopter landed on the road to take the woman to hospital and luckily, despite the severity of the crash, the woman's injuries were not as serious as first reported.

The road remained closed while the crash site was made safe, and the road reopened at 2.30am.
