Two graduates from Falmouth University’s School of Film and Television have been shortlisted for a BAFTA International Student Film Award.

Jack Ghigo and Leonie Isaacs’ animation, Falling in Love, is one of just 45 films selected from over 400 submissions following an international expansion of the awards.

Jack and Leonie, who graduated with BA(Hons) animation and visual effects last year, will attend the gala ceremony, which takes place on Thursday, June 22, at Ace Hotel in Los Angeles.

Andy Joule, head of animation and visual effects, said: "This is a really terrific achievement for our graduates Jack and Leonie. The whole course team are immensely proud of them especially as their film is the only one nominated from a UK-based BA degree course. I think this demonstrates how animation and visual effects at Falmouth continues to flourish; producing creative graduates who are imaginative, technically skilled and able to confidently compete on the international stage."

Amanda Berry, BAFTA chief executive, said: “Welcoming these new students into the BAFTA community underlies our commitment to recognising talent globally and helping to nurture their careers in the creative industries. Their success should know no boundaries, professionally or geographically.”

This year, select film schools worldwide were invited to submit up to nine films for consideration for four top prizes – the BAFTA Student Film Award for Animation, the Student Film Award for Documentary, the Student Film Award for Live Action Film, and the Special Jury Prize, selected by the event’s panel members. The shortlisted films have been selected from submissions by students at film schools in 15 countries across the world, including Argentina, Austria, Canada, China, Germany, India, Israel, Lebanon, South Africa, and the United Kingdom.
