Tributes to a young mother of two have been left at the spot where her car plunged into Stithians Lake on Tuesday evening.

The woman, who has been named locally as Hazel Brown, died after her car went into the lake following a collision on Hillside, a nearby road.

Mrs Brown, who leaves behind her partner and two young children, is understood to have worked at the Acorn parent and toddler group at Highway Church in Penryn.

Highway Church said it was too soon to issue a comment on Mrs Brown's death.

A message left on a floral tribute at the scene of the crash, from Rachel and everyone at Fit and Fun Kids nursery, reads: "Thinking of you all at this difficult time.

"We are all here for you, don't hesitate to call.

"Sending all our love."

Police were called to the scene of a single vehicle collision on Hillside, near Rame, at around 8.50pm on Tuesday night.

The driver was then taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

One local resident, who saw a stream of flashing lights head past her house, said: "The weather was really bad, there was wind and torrential rain.

"The visibility was really bad and down there there's no street lights, so she wouldn't have been able to see much.

"You couldn't see more than 100 metres."

Officers from Plymouth and Camborne Roads Policing Team attended the scene and are appealing for further witnesses to come forward.
