A young football fan from Penzance had the experience of a lifetime, as he was whisked away to see his favourite team play for the first time.

George Blaken travelled from his home in West Cornwall to Manchester, when he went to the Etihad Stadium where he watched his team enjoy a 2-1 win against Leicester.

He was the lucky winner of a recent competition to attend Manchester City's City Family Day at the City Football Academy.

The event, which was launched especially for the 2016/17 season, invites families to enjoy a free immersive experience full of family friendly activities ahead of Premier Leagues home games.

George and his Dad, Charles Blaken, had never been able to attend a home game before.

But they were whisked to Manchester to join in the fun of City Family Day.

Hosted on the very same indoor pitch that the men’s first team train on, George met Club mascots, Moonchester and Moonbeam, and got up close and personal with the Club’s recent silverware including the FA Women’s Super League and FA WSL Continental Tyres Cup trophies.

They also had the chance to play five-a-side matches, take part in a range of fun football skills games like free kick challenges, penalty shoot-outs, and keepie uppie contests, and all with the chance to win exclusive prizes.

Further entertainment included face painting, Match Attax, table football, a photo booth, live music and more.

To close the pre-match event, George joined flag bearers and City Square presenters on a March To The Match over the City Football Academy bridge to join the rest of the home team fans as they gathered at the Etihad Stadium ahead of kick-off.

George’s Dad, Charles, said: “What an incredible day.

"George was beaming from ear-to-ear the whole way through.

"He’s never been to a city game before with us living so far from the ground.

"It was only on the morning that we discovered he had won, that he mentioned he really wanted to go and watch City for his birthday later this year.

"When we told him he was off to the Family Day event and to watch the Leicester game, he was completely overcome with emotion. It really was a dream come true for him.”

George said: “My first ever game was just as amazing as I imagined.

"Thank you so much to MOTD and Manchester City for making it happen.

"I can’t believe we were sat so close to the pitch in the Etihad Stadium that we got to see the players up close. It was unbelievable.”
