The first of four planned fundraising events has been held in Mabe Community Hall, to raise money for the village's defibrillator appeal.

Members of the local community gathered to enjoy an afternoon of eating cream teas, and attendees also got to try their luck in a raffle.

Patrons were able to enjoy the home-made cakes and confectionary guilt free, as they were also supporting a very worth cause.

On the day £124.22 was raised for the appeal, taking their total to £4,868.36, some 76 per cent of the total needed.

The money will be used to install a second defibrillator unit to go at the village's post office, alongside the first unit already installed outside the Community Hall.

When one of the units is needed, it can be accessed by calling 999 to Ambulance Control, who monitor the installations 24/7.

They will then decide the nearest available unit, and give instructions on how to proceed with the casualty, and how to access the defibrillator.

On Sunday, cakes were donated by supporters Liz Charles, Janet Warren and Margaret Barnicoat.

Anyone interested in helping the cause can donate on the website justgiving.com/mypcPADappeal, or by putting their donation into the collection boxes in the hairdressers of the village shop.

There are three more planned cream tea afternoons, on July 9, August 6 and September 3.
