Anyone with views about Helston is being encouraged to be part of a panel for a new ‘Question Time’ style event later this year.

The event, which will most likely be held in late September or early October, is being organised by Dave Potter, who said he had been trying to think of a way to connect people in the town.

“It’s to bring together the community, to enable people to give views, come up with ideas and ask questions. To get the community to meet and get engaged not with politics but local issues,” he said.

Although Mr Potter is a councillor in Helston the event is in no way linked to the town council.

“This is me, Dave Potter the resident of Helston, wanting to promote something for the good of the community,” he explained.

The event would follow a similar format to BBC Question Time, with Radio Cornwall’s Rebecca Wills chairing a panel of around six people answering questions from the audience on local issues at that time. Doors would open at 7pm, with questions from 7.30pm until 8.30pm and then an opportunity to chat with people individually afterwards.

Mr Potter would now like to hear from people who would like to sit on the panel at the debut Question Time or at a future event.

This could be anyone living in Helston or with an interest in the town, with Mr Potter adding: “You don’t need to be part of any body or organisation.

“If you want to be part of the panel and answer questions from the community of Helston then get in touch. Everyone is encouraged.”

He would also be interested to hear from anyone in the sixth form at Helston Community College who would be keen to sit on the panel.

“The more people we have that step forward the greater pool that we can selection from in coming events. Literally anybody that would like to be involved please get in contact,” he added.

This can be done online via the Helston Community Forum at helstoncommunityforum.vbulletin.net or call Dave Potter on 07971 848442.
