After much anticipation, Shortlanesend Community Primary School has announced the winning name for Truro’s latest development of new family homes.

The school was given the task of choosing the perfect name for the new development of two, three and four bedroom homes in Shortlanesend. With Penrose having historical ties to Cornwall and nearby Penrose Water Gardens, property developer Burrington Estates chose the name Penrose View as the stand-out winner for the development.

Penrose View was the idea of Haydon Penhallurick, age seven; with Penrose Drive, from Laura O’Dowd, age ten, coming a close second. The third place was given to Jenson Bray, age five, for his impressive Pasty Avenue.

The children were officially crowned the winners of the competition at a school assembly and presented with their prizes by the developer. Burrington Estates felt it was their responsibility as a developer to conduct a health and safety talk during the assembly, to teach the children about potential hazards at building sites.

Headteacher Chad Wilson said: “The chance to name the new development on the outskirts of our village, was a wondrously generous and exciting opportunity for the children of Shortlanesend School. One child and their family will have the lifelong knowledge that their idea was successful, and will remain constantly on show as part of the fabric of the village for generations."

Colin Palmer, managing director of Burrington Estates New Homes, said: “We are thrilled with the name and can’t thank Shortlanesend Community Primary School and all the children enough for their contributions."
