Helston Post Office is to close next month - and reopen with a modern new look and longer opening hours giving seven day a week access.

The Coinagehall Street office will shut at 1pm on Monday, September 18 to allow for refurbishment that will include four modern counters: one screened for privacy and security, two open plan and a serving point at the retail counter, which will provide the majority of post office services out of hours.

It means people will be able to send parcels, withdraw cash and access their benefits seven days a week once the office reopens on Wednesday, October 4 at 1pm.

This retail counter will be open 7am to 10pm Monday to Friday, from 8am to 10pm Saturdays and 8am to 8pm Sundays.

Full post office services will be available Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm - an extra five hours on a Saturday, which previously had lunchtime closing.

Post Office Limited has said that a wider selection of on-demand travel money will also be available.

Annete Thomas, Post Office area manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

"We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future.”

During the temporary closure period customers have been advised that the closest branches are Porthleven, Breage and Gweek, or Falmouth for a full range of services.
