With less than two weeks to go until the Mawnan Fun Run there is still time for potential participants to enter and help raise money for charity.

Falmouth Rotary Club is calling for people to get their running shoes on for the 10k or 5k race or the one mile children’s fun run, which will all start at Carwinion Playing Field on Sunday, September 24, at 10am.

The event has increased in size over the past five years with almost 250 competitors taking part last year and over £2,000 raised each year for local charities.

Rotarian Rod Allday, chairman of the organising committee, said: “We are hoping that this year’s event will be a record breaker but the closing date for pre-entries is at midnight on Sunday, September 17, so competitors need to sign up soon in order to guarantee getting a medal and goody bag at the finish.”

The event offers something for everyone, with a 1 mile fun run around the village which is aimed at primary school children aged 11 and under, and 5K and 10k races for those who fancy more of a challenge. There will also be a barbecue, refreshments, a licensed bar, and lots more going on in Carwinion Playing Field during the morning.

The event has been really well supported by local businesses who have donated some excellent prizes for the winners of each race category, and there will be trophies for the children’s age categories donated by Cornish Holiday Cottages.

Runners can enter online at mawnanfunrun.org.uk, and entries and postal entry forms can be downloaded from the website. Entry on the day will be available at a surcharge of £2.00 per person but those runners will not be guaranteed to receive a medal and goody bag.
