Firearms officers were called in to arrest a man in Truro city centre yesterday afternoon following reports of a man with a handgun.
The specialist team were called to the William Street area, along with local officers, to arrest a 46 year old local man for alleged witness intimidation.
Inspector Rick Milburn said: "The use of firearm officers was a purely precautionary measure due to the mention of a handgun. Whilst the weapon at this time has not been located, evidence suggests that it is a low powered BB gun."
Police also seized a quantity of drugs and cash during the arrest, and Truro Criminal Investigation Department is continuing with its enquiries.
Inspector Milburn added: "It is likely that we will see further arrests as the investigation progresses. I'd like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident and the victim appears to have been specifically targeted as a result of his association with these persons."
