At a recent meeting of the Camborne Redruth & District Lions Club the Lions presented their Youth achievement award jointly to Amber Gibson and Tabitha Taylor.

The girls are aged 15 and 16 respectively and are both students at Pool Academy where they are studying to take their GCSE’s. They will be leaving the academy at the end of the academic year to transfer to Truro College to study for their A-levels after which both are hoping to continue on to university.

Amber is the head girl at the academy and Tabitha is a senior prefect. They both have an impressive array of interests and show a level of maturity which belies their tender years.

An interest they particularly share and are both passionate about is charitable work in the community. They are particularly interested in raising money to help the homeless. This came about after Amber and Tabitha witnessed the plight of "rough sleepers" during a recent visit to Plymouth.

Due to their imminent exams they have had to put their fund raising aspirations on hold. However once the exams are over then fund raising will take preference with ‘dress-down’ days and ‘bake sales at the academy.

Both girls are very keen to continue their charitable work for the foreseeable future and all money raised is destined for charities that help the homeless.

Lion President Paul Bray said that that by presenting the Lion’s Youth awards to Amber and Tabitha it would encourage them to carry on their charitable works and make them aware that their efforts are appreciated.

Lion Paul presented both girls with the Lions Youth Achievement Certificate and a £50 Amazon voucher.
