IT WAS party time in Flushing on Sunday as residents celebrated the Royal Wedding in fine style.

The village took to the streets a day after the Windsor spectacle, with around 200 people enjoying food, drink and live music.

Sue Yates, who has organised four previous Royal celebrations in the village, said: "It was a fantastic day and the good people of Flushing not only helped to set it up but also to clean up at the end of the evening."

Together with her partner Paul Lightfoot and daughter Sorcha, Sue manned the barbecue throughout the afternoon, while Philip Chapman and his wife Natasha, sporting a Beefeater costume, provided a continuous supply of popcorn.

The party, which began at 4pm and finished just after 9pm, raised more than £170 for MacMillan through donations, while the lucky dip made £40 for Flushing Village Club.

Previous Flushing street parties organised by Sue have included the wedding of Prince William and Kate, the Queen's 90th birthday, her diamond jubilee and when she became the longest serving monarch.

It was decided to hold it on Sunday to cause less disruption to traffic driving through the village.

All residents, their family and holiday-makers staying in Flushing were invited.
