The Eden Project has announced the winners in what is thought to be the biggest pub quiz ever held and a Falmouth pub shares top spot.

A total of 220 pub landlords returned their Did You Kernow? quiz forms to Eden and they have now been sent to the offices of Guinness World Records as evidence for the adjudicators.

The previous world record was set by 21 pubs in Dublin in 2006. Eden, whose quiz took place last month (December), stands in good stead to set a new world record.

The highest scoring teams in Cornwall were the Turkey Giblets from the St Piran's Inn, Holywell Bay, and the Knuttons of Nancy's Bar, Falmouth, each with 88 points out of 108.

Runners up with 87 points each were the Four Forks from the William IV, Truro, and Cubert, also from the St Piran's Inn.

Joint third place with 86 points each were Cousin Jack from the Radjel Inn, Pendeen, D Seyler's team at the Four Burrows Hotel, Grampound Road, and the Pickled Eggs from the Cornish Arms, Frogpool.

The title of brightest pub in Cornwall was awarded to the Queen and Railway, St Columb. The pub had the fewest and smallest teams but the highest average score per person.

Did You Kernow? was devised by Emma Mansfield, a member of the Eden marketing team and author of the recently-published Little Book of Cornwall. It was part of Eden's bid in the Big Lottery Fund's People's £50 Million Contest, which was eventually won by the Sustrans Connect2 project.

Emma said: "Did You Kernow? was a huge success and we hope everyone who took part had a great time and enjoyed the chance to flex their local-knowledge muscles. We're confident that we've broken the record but will hopefully get confirmation soon, so fingers crossed."
