A fire has devastated the historic Pandora Inn at Restronguet Creek.

The whole roof of the 13th century pub has collapsed into the first floor.

It is believed the fire, which started at around 11am, began in the chimney before spreading to the roof.

Neighbour Peter Watson called the emergency services after staff from the pub knocked at his door.

He said: “Someone came up and said can you call the fire brigade because their phones were out.

“I called and then went out to see, but by that stage the flames were already taking hold of the roof.

“I called the fire service back to warn them it was a big one.”

Dozens of firefighters are at the scene, as the remains of the structure continue to smoulder.

The coastguard and the Falmouth Inshore Lifeboat are also there, to help with safety cover.

Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service issued an appeal to residents of Restronguet to keep all their doors and windows closed, due to the amount of smoke billowing from the pub.

The smoke can be seen from as far away as Devoran.

At the height of the blaze, 35 firefighters were tackling the flames. The road to the pub – which already has limited access – is closed to all traffic.
