DEMOLITION work will begin at the site of the fire-ravaged Best Western Falmouth Beach Hotel today.

The six week job will see the remains of the hotel taken down in seven sections.

The go-ahead for the work was given after experts spent weeks assessing the structural safety of the site. Some structurally unsafe sections of the hotel have already been pulled down.

The 120 bedroom hotel was gutted by fire on April 30, leaving devastating damage and just 16 bedrooms remaining.

As the rebuild process enters the design phase, the hotel team are organising a feedback session open to the public.

“While it’ll be very sad to see the old building go, we can now focus on creating a new hotel,” said Ryan Ohly, the hotel’s general manager.

“The public forum is a chance for our guests, customers and hotel visitors to let us know what they liked about the old hotel as well as what they felt could be improved upon.

“We greatly value public opinion and this is a fantastic opportunity to create something that really meets the needs of the local community.”

The hotel team also have the local community in mind with regards to the demolition process.

Due to the proximity of neighbouring businesses and homes to the hotel site, every precaution will be taken.

“The hotel will be demolished bit by bit in seven sections,” said Mr Ohly. “The debris will be dampened to limit the release of dust as much as possible and no work will be carried out on weekends or Bank Holidays.”

The demolition team will work between the hours of 8am and 6pm but no noisy operations will take place until after 9am.”
