The full regatta programme for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta has been finalised. Falmouth is playhing host to the start of the event, with a fleet of some 20 Tall Ships arriving by midday on Wednesday September 10 for four days of entertainment and spectacle before leaving on Saturday September 13 in a Parade of Sail preceding the race start.

Travel students join the tall ships
Travel and tourism students from Cornwall College have formed an alliance with the tourism service of Carrick council which will provide them with the unique experience of acting as stewards at the Funchal 500 Tall Ship Regatta in Falmouth in September.

Class A ships list full
The ports of Falmouth in the UK and Funchal in Portugal have now reached their maximum capacity for the large Class A ships for this year's Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta. Smaller vessels are still able to enter but these two ports are unable to berth any more Class A ships.

Falmouth Tall Ships Association held its second Tall Ships Ball at the Falmouth Hotel to raise funds for the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta, which is to be held from September 10 - 13, this year in Falmouth.

Walking to raise money for sailing
Stunning scenery, four boat trips and a Cornish cream tea is the reward for the first 200 who sign up for the Fal River Walk, on the June 1 and help raise money for the tall ships regatta and other good causes. The Walk, part of the Fal River Festival, is being organised by The Rotary Club of Truro Boscawen and aims to raise £20,000 for charity by asking each of the 200 walkers to try and raise £100 in sponsorship.

There is still time to take part in the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta which is being held in Falmouth in September before ships sail for Madeira. About 30 vessels or all shapes and sizes will be taking part and visiting Falmouth where many will take on new crews, mostly young people, before setting off to celebrate the 500th annniversary of Funchal, capital of the island of Madeira.

Fifteen local companies attended a Corporate Hospitality evening at the Falmouth Hotel on Wednesday last week, to hear about entertainment opportunities on board one of the tall ships visiting Falmouth from September 10 to 13.

The Falmouth Tall Ships Association is holding a special Funchal 500 Ball on April 11. The formal dress evening is being held at the Falmouth Hotel and it is hoped to raise a considerable sum towareds the Funchal 500 Regatta, being held in September.
