World War I Falmouth harbour news
This week in the harbour, 100 years ago:
August 28, 1914
American battle cruisers Tennessee and North Carolina return to Falmouth.
September 6, 1914
German subject from Bodmin shot in the leg by a sentry in the High Street.
September 10, 1914
Three German prizes – two four masted vessels and one three masted schooner brought in by HMS Talbot. Cargoes of grain, wheat, nitrate and timber.
September 11, 1914
Four of our battleships HM ships Vengeance, Goliath, Caesar and Prince George and three cruisers Talbot, Eclipse and Charybdis came into the bay in the afternoon.
September 18, 1914
HMS Goliath brought in the Dutch liner Gelria loaded with 500 German reservists.
