Young people wishing to embark on a career within the super yacht building industry should look at the high standard of workmanship coming out of the Pendennis Shipyard.

The company is currently looking to recruit eight apprentices for their hull finishing course.

The world-class super yacht builders are busy with three major winter refit projects currently underway at the complex, along with other building work.

The 75.2-metre vessel Northern Star, the largest motor yacht yet to be worked on by Pendennis, is in the outer dock. She joins another 56-metre yacht berthed in the inner dock.

The three newly-built construction halls and undercover dry docks are welcoming the prestigious yachts for the winter.

The magnificent 65-metre schooner Adix was hauled out at the beginning of August to begin a comprehensive eight-month refit programme and is now located in the second of Pendennis’ two new 90-metre construction halls, custom designed for world-class painting and refit projects.

Adix, a familiar sight in local waters, is undergoing engineering works which include the fitting of new generators and main engine, as well as a redesign of the yacht’s deckhouse, which will be moved further forward and combined with a seating area to provide better interaction with the owner’s accommodation.

The magnificent schooner, which has twice taken part in the Pendennis Cup Races, is undergoing her fourth refit at the Falmouth yard.

The modern J-Class yacht Lionheart has been hauled out using the yard’s new 640-tonne hoist in preparation for her five-year survey work programme.

Following her refit, she will be competing in the J-Class Regatta taking place off Falmouth from June 23 to 27 next year. This will be the second J-Class Regatta to be staged in Falmouth Bay in the past three years.

These three vessels will be undergoing class surveys and paint works with their refits due to be finished next spring in conjunction with the completion of Phase 2 of Pendennis’ major development project, the creation of a non-tidal wet basin ideally positioned for their post-refit commissioning period.
