In the days when Falmouth docks were expanding, the Houlder Lines refrigerated cargo vessel Hardwicke Grange, seen in the picture with a white Maltese Cross on Funnel had the honour of being the first ship to drydock in number four in 1928.

The ship sank in 1942 north east of Puerto Rico after being torpedoed by U-129 under the command of Hans Ludwig Witt.

Her master and 14 crew members spent 13 days in a lifeboat before being rescued.
