RFA Mounts Bay had a VIP onboard when she called at Gibraltar on her way to a deployment in the Mediterranean. The new Governor of Gibraltar, Lieutenant General Edward Davis disembarked from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, which is Falmouth’s adopted ship.
The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo greeted His Excellency and Mrs Lorraine Davis as they disembarked RFA Mounts Bay and set foot on Gibraltar soil after sailing across from Tangiers.
To formally mark his arrival soldiers from the Royal Gibraltar Regiment fired a 17-Gun Salute.
Lt Gen Davis served as Commandant General Royal Marines between 2011 and 2014 and was Commander 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines from 2010 to 2011.
RFA Mounts Bay deployed from the UK earlier this month and will operate in the Mediterranean over coming months providing a continuous amphibious capability in the region while exercising with partner nations.
