The Royal Fleet Auxiliary RFA Argus was joined at the docks by the former USS Argus, the luxury super yacht Dona Amelia that once served as a United States warship in WW2.

Dona Amelia is in number four drydock undergoing routine maintenance after spending several years laid up in the River Fal. The work will include a hull inspection for Classification purposes, anti-fouling and replacement of anodes.

An iconic yacht from the 1920s was commissioned by Max C. Fleischmann, a millionaire yeast producer and launched by the Krupp Germaniawerft shipyard in 1927 as the Haida.

Strongly built for trans-Pacific voyages of exploration the Haida took her name from a native tribe of Queen Charlotte Island whose seafaring skills were admired by Fleischmann. He sold her to the US Navy in 1940 when she became USS Argus, a patrol vessel.

Decommissioned by the US Navy the yacht went into private ownership once more being owned by a series of millionaires which include British politician Loel Guinness and film producer Robert Stigwood. During this period between 1940 and 1981 she had the names Sarina and Rosenkavalier. In 1999 her new owner named the yacht Haida-G. Changing hands once again she became Dona Amelia.
