Collision ship refuels in the calm of Carrick Roads

Sporting a new bow section, the Danish-owned tanker Torm Gertrud, was one of many ships that had to anchor in the Carrick Roads to re-fuel due to heavy swell conditions in the bay last week.

The tanker hit the headlines in August last year after colliding with the bulk carrier New Flame off Gibraltar.

The Panamanian bulker laden with scrap had left the port without obtaining official clearance to sail from the Port Authority.

The New Flame sank but the Torm Gertrud which was loaded with 37,000 tonnes of gasoline limped into Algeciras, Spain.

In 2004, the cruiseship Van Gogh sailed from Gibraltar and collided with the tanker Spetses, which was sailing into Algeciras.
