A former Coldstream Guardsman was ordered to attend an attendance centre in Truro for 36 hours when he appeared before Truro magistrates for failing to pay £610 fines which he owed.
He was Kyle Cooke, 20, of Prislow Fields, Falmouth.
He told the magistrates he had paid nothing since 2012 when the fines and costs were imposed for motoring offences, and later for a threatening behaviour offence, because he had been “in a bad place” at the time.
He said he had gone absent without leave from the Army in June last year and since had been in a military prison for that. He said he had no money, no job and was not on benefits. After reading a probation report on him the magistrates decided on the attendance centre sentence and also remitted £100 of his unpaid fines.
