A total of 119 Christmas gifts were wrapped by volunteers from The Mission to Seafarers and the Apostleship of the Sea from St Mary’s Church, Falmouth.
The Christmas “wrapathon” was carried out in the boardroom of A&P Falmouth and each parcel was decorated with a large red bow by local florist Lyn Veale. Once the wrapping was completed the volunteers enjoyed mince pies and creams.
Under the auspices of the Sinbad Appeal, run annually by Primrose Peacock, gifts were provided by St Piran’s Church, Truro; St John’s Church, Truro; and St Gluvias Church, Penryn. Other gifts came from the Lions Club of Falmouth and Penryn, Falmouth Mothers’ Union and many individual donors.
The Christmas parcels were distributed to the crews of six ships that were in Falmouth Docks on Christmas Day, to mariners on two ships in Penzance and to vessels on the River Fal, as well as well as to the crew of the Emre Omur, a salvage tug lying off The Manacles.
