A TEAM of pupils from St Mary’s School beat off tough competition to retain the trophy at the annual Falmouth primary schools’ swimming gala last week.

The 16, year five and six children, took on pupils from Marlborough, St Francis and King Charles School in a series of races at Truro Leisure Centre and at the end of the day were crowned the winners for the second consecutive year. The children all competed in individual races in free-style, back stroke, breast stroke and butterfly as well as working as teams in relay races. There were 20 races in all with the St Mary’s swimmers winning ten of them.

The team will now go on to represent Falmouth in the area final to be held at Carn Brea on February 1.
