Weekend Round-Up: What's been making the headlines this week
5:04pm Friday 1st March 2013 in Falmouth/Penryn
HERE at thepacket.co.uk we like to give you a little look back at what has been making the headlines, and highlight those stories you may have missed.
If you have an idea about what stories you would like to see, or how to make this more useful, let me know at jonathan.millar@packetseries.co.uk.
There can only really be one story to put at the top of this list. A councillor has resigned this week after saying that disabled children should be "put down" because they cost the council too much money. Not surprisingly a media bun fight erupted. They say that all political careers end in failure, although not always this spectacularly. Click here to read the full story.
Royal Cornwall Hospital Trust has made an "unreserved apology" after a surgeon was allowed to continue working despite complaints over 12 years. Click here to read more.
The shock and exertion of swimming after a loose dinghy in the cold waters of the Helford River wearing only a pair of shorts directly led to sailor Kristian Selman's death, an inquest heard this week. Click here to read the report.
Next up is politics at New County Hall. With resignations, a sacking, threats of job cuts, a council tax freeze and rows aplenty. Anyone would think there is an election looming, oh wait, there is!

In Helston, councillors have made a swift U-turn over community centre cash. Read more here
At RNAS Culdrose a new real ale has been produced to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Royal Navy’s search and rescue service – although there will most definitely be no drinking and flying. Click here to read more
IT is making a comeback, the Pendennis Point of View column: 'A light-hearted look at local life.' Taking over the whole of page six every week in the Falmouth/Penryn Packet, you can read former Packet reporter Mike Truscott's contribution to the page by clicking here
We have been embracing technology here at thepacket.co.uk, and have created quite a few videos over recent weeks, with more to come.
We have a very chilly baptism at Gyllyngvase Beach. Click here to watch the pastor take a tumble.

Highlights only benefit people who don't read the stories in the first place.
The only thing you could do is offer more of a writers review of those stories with personal opinion on them and adding what others think too.

I would like to see a story telling me that I have won the Lotto. However, what stories we would like to see and what stories we get are probably two different things.
