The team behind Falmouth's Pink Wig Events are celebrating after raising a staggering £20,000 through a variety of fundraisers over the past year.

The Cornwall Breast Care Team will receive £10,000 while the Breast Cancer Campaign will get £8,500 with the remaining £1,500 being put aside to kick-start next year's Pink Wiggers' fundraising campaign.

Sally Hicks-Wood, a breast cancer survivor who founded Pink Wig Events, said: “We are just overwhelmed by the support and following we have now. From such a small beginning, we have watched Pink Wig Events evolve into a successful fundraising organisation.

“My hope is that we will continue to get the support from local businesses and people so that we can change the future in a positive way for the generations to follow. With the passion and devotion my team show, I know we can do it.

“The Pink Wig team would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one who has helped us achieve this outstanding figure. To the many individuals, businesses, teams and companies, not forgetting all our lovely Pink Wig wearing ladies who travelled from around the world to attend this year's Pink Wig parade and party night, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”

Sue Morant, media officer, added: “Fundraising events this year have included people holding coffee mornings, playschools and local businesses encouraging 'wear it pink' days, individuals doing parachute jumps, flashmobs, raffles, auctions, Zumbathons, a team of young men jogging the coastal path of Cornwall averaging over a marathon a day, and not forgetting the amazing Heather Champion agreeing to have her head shaved.

“We are truly grateful to you all and look forward to collaborating with many more people over the coming year to continue fundraising for such a passionate cause, so close to so many people's hearts.”

Arrangements for 2014's fundraisers are already underway which start with the Pink Tie Ball at the Greenbank Hotel on April 4 and include the Pink Wiggers' main event - the annual parade through the streets of Falmouth on August 8.

Individuals are also planning to raise money with their own events. Jayne Downie, of Falmouth, is running in the Paris Marathon on April 6; Colin Hicks, Sally's husband, is looking for help and sponsorship with a 2,500 mile charity bike ride in June. If you feel you can help in any way with sponsorship/planning etc, Colin can be contacted via the Pink Wig website.

In addition, Falmouth Golf Club ladies' team have also decided to support Pink Wig Events as their fundraising group for 2014.
