FOUR teachers with a combined service of 116 years called time on their teaching careers last week, bidding an emotional farewell to their colleagues and students at Penryn College.

Assistant head teacher, Ros Bastian; head of science, Lee Franklin; head of humanities and geography teacher, Steve Clifford, and head of house and English teacher, Linda Muller, were the VIP guests at a staff get together ahead of their final day at school.

Head teacher Marie Hunter paid tribute to foursome who she said “had served the young people at Penryn College so very well.” She added: “They have made a real contribution to the numerous young people they have taught over the years and I wish them a happy and healthy retirement.”

Mrs Bastian joined the school in 1978 and progressed from the PE department to a senior management position.

She has always been passionate about ensuring that all young people have the opportunity to develop their sporting talents as well as enjoying their school experiences.

Mrs Muller, who joined the college in 1982, was a head of year for many years and was instrumental in introducing, with Mrs Bastian, the house system. She is described as “a passionate English teacher.”

Mr Clifford arrived at the school in 1985 and led humanities at the college as well as teaching geography. He had organised numerous field trips in this country and abroad.

Mr Franklin joined the staff in 1995 and has made “a major contribution” to outdoor education at the college. He is a keen kayaker and has shared this love with many of his students.
